Choir

The Gardenview choir is a vocal workshop developed with great success by opera singers Dimitris Ilias and Maria Diamantis. Students audition and those selected are taught proper breathing techniques, phonation and pronunciation. The choir repertoire varies to include all eras and all styles carefully selected for elementary school students.

A brief history

Funded by Gardenview's Home and School Association since 1997, the choir has grown to a versatile choral ensemble with many successful performances that include radio and TV appearances, recordings and festival participations for which it earned glowing reviews.

In 2007, the choir sang in the Sound of Music, a fully staged musical production sponsored. Following the musical’s success, the choir continued to sing in this beautiful Broadway tradition with Grease in 2009 and The Wizard of Oz in 2011. In the alternate years, the choir fundraises for charities like the Children's Wish Foundation and the Terry Fox Foundation through the ACTION! concerts.

In 2013, the choir was involved in recording original music for the “Time for Flowers Time for Snow” book/CD project. The following year, Gardenview’s choir performed an original musical based on the book. The book was then translated to French and the choristers were once again called upon to lend their voices to the CD that would accompany it called, “Le temps des fleurs le temps des neiges”.
